Many of our clients would love to personalize their wedding by asking one of their guests to act as a celebrant at their wedding, or maybe one of their guests happens to be a professional photographer, videographer, entertainer, DJ or hair and makeup artist back home.
We also often get requests from wedding professionals in Australia (or overseas) who would love to work with us on future weddings in Bali.
We think it’s great when couples have wedding guests, preferred overseas companies or suppliers that they know and trust, and it’s also great hearing from talented foreigners wanting to work on Bali weddings. However, one thing you need to understand is that you can’t just hop a plane, come to Bali and work at a wedding.
Indonesia, like many other countries, requires any person wanting to work in the country to have the applicable working permit or visa. If you are wanting to use your own overseas supplier or professional individual for any services, they will need to apply for a working visa. Considering the cost of obtaining a sponsor and setting up a business, setting up all applicable licenses for an Indonesian company, not to mention the bureaucracy and time involved, it’s not cheap or easy!
If you were to consider bringing in an overseas vendor to your wedding, there's a high chance that they could be denied entry to Bali when they show up at passport control holding only a holiday visa, If they’re spotted and reported, they could be fined, deported and banned from entering Bali for a period of time. Not to mention the trouble we could find ourselves in by working with people without the applicable visas and supporting paperwork.
The view taken by the Indonesian authorities is that, by bringing in vendors from overseas (or even by having a guest act in a professional capacity at a wedding), you’re denying an equally qualified Indonesia vendor of his (or her) livelihood.
To summarize, you could certainly consider using an overseas supplier or wedding guest in a professional capacity, but please be aware of the above. Once known, some venues will not allow them on site and we will not be able to liaise or help them with any aspects of a wedding, due to the problems their involvement could cause.
Rather than going through all these hassles and additional costs, you can reply on us to provide qualified and experienced companies and vendors that we have available to us in Bali - companies and vendors who we’ve worked with for many years that we know to be honest, reliable and trustworthy.
