Bali Wedding Cost Breakdown: Plan Your Budget in Australian Dollars

Planning a wedding in Bali is a dream come true for many couples. The island’s stunning beaches, lush landscapes, and vibrant culture create the perfect backdrop for a memorable celebration. But before you get swept away by the romance, it’s important to understand the costs involved. Knowing what to expect financially helps you plan wisely and avoid surprises. Let’s dive into a clear, friendly guide to our Bali Wedding Cost Breakdown so you can budget confidently and enjoy every moment of your special day.

Bali Wedding Cost Breakdown Understanding the Basics

When you start looking into a Bali wedding, you’ll quickly realize that costs can vary widely. Factors like the venue, number of guests, and style of the wedding all play a big role. But here’s the good news: Bali offers options for every budget, from intimate beach ceremonies to lavish resort affairs.

Venue and Location

Hiring the venue is often the biggest chunk of your budget. Bali has everything from beachfront and clifftop resorts and private villas to traditional jungle and lush garden settings. Prices can range from a few hundred dollars for a simple beach setup to several thousand for luxury resorts.

  • Beach ceremony: Around AUD 1,000 to AUD 3,000

  • Villa wedding: AUD 2,000 to AUD 7,000

  • Resort wedding: AUD 2,000 to AUD 15,000+

Choosing a venue with a wedding package that includes services like decorations, seating, personal flowers and accommodation for the bride & groom can save you money and stress.

Food and Beverage

Food is a highlight of any wedding, and Bali’s culinary scene is fantastic. You can opt for traditional Balinese dishes, international cuisine, or a mix of the two. Catering costs depend on the number of guests and menu choices.

  • Per person cost: AUD 30 to AUD 100

  • Buffet style: Usually more affordable but sometimes offered for smaller weddings

  • Plated meals: Tend to be pricier but more formal

Don’t forget to budget for drinks, including cocktails, wine, and non-alcoholic options.

Resort hotels usually offer a range of full flow drinks packages but these can be expensive. In our experience, it often works out cheaper to setup a bar tab with the bar manager prior to the event, which can be added to during the event, if required. Resort hotels will also charge corkage fees on bottled drinks brought into the venue, which can become expensive. It's also required that any bottled drinks are purchased trough an approved liquor outlet in Bali, with each bottle showing that all relevant customs tax has been paid. Bringing in bottled drinks purchased duty free cannot be brought into the event, as these are considered to e for private consumption only.

Booking a catering company to provide food & beverage at a private villa wedding has the distinct advantage of offering cheaper full flow drinks packages, with drinks being able to be provided by the couple and their guests without corkage fees. However, bar tabs are not usually available.

What is the 30 5 Rule for Weddings?

You might have heard about the “30 5 rule” when planning weddings. It’s a simple budgeting guideline that helps keep things manageable.

  • 30% of your total budget should go to the venue and catering combined.

  • 5% of your budget is recommended for entertainment and extras.

This rule helps you allocate funds wisely, ensuring you don’t overspend on one area and neglect others. For example, if your total budget is AUD 20,000, then AUD 6,000 should cover venue and food, and AUD 1,000 for entertainment and additional touches.

Using this rule can keep your planning balanced and stress-free.

Tips to Save Money on Your Bali Wedding

Planning a wedding abroad can feel overwhelming, but there are plenty of ways to keep costs down without sacrificing style or fun.

1. Choose Off-Peak Season

Bali’s high season is from July to August and around Christmas / New Year. Prices for venues and services can spike during these times. Consider planning your wedding in the shoulder or low season (April to June or September to October) for better deals.

2. Limit the Guest List

Smaller weddings mean fewer costs for catering, seating, and favors. An intimate ceremony with close family and friends can be just as magical.

3. Hire a Local Wedding Planner

A local expert knows the best vendors and can negotiate better prices. They also handle logistics, saving you time and stress.

4. Simplify Decorations

Bali’s natural beauty is a decoration in itself. Opt for minimal floral arrangements and use the surroundings to your advantage.

5. Combine Ceremony and Reception Venues

Choosing a venue that can host both your ceremony and reception prevents doubling up on venue hire fees and reduces transport and setup costs.
