Planning a wedding in Bali is a dream for many couples. The island’s stunning beaches, lush landscapes, and vibrant culture create a magical backdrop for a memorable celebration. However, understanding the costs involved is crucial to ensure your special day goes smoothly without unexpected expenses. This guide will walk you through Bali wedding costs, covering the typical expenses you can expect when organizing a wedding in Bali, helping you budget wisely and make informed decisions.
Guide to Bali Wedding Costs
Bali wedding costs can vary widely depending on the scale, location, and style of your event. From intimate beach ceremonies to lavish resort affairs, each choice impacts your budget. Here are the main categories to consider:
Venue: The location is often the largest expense. Options range from beachfront resorts and private villas to jungle themed venues including river views and waterfalls.
Catering: Food and beverage costs depend on the number of guests and menu choices.
Decorations and Flowers: Bali offers beautiful local flowers and decorations, but elaborate setups can increase costs.
Photography and Videography: Capturing your day professionally is essential, with prices varying by experience and package.
Entertainment: Live bands, DJs and traditional Balinese performers add to the atmosphere.
Lighting: Overhead naked bulb and fairy lighting + banana trunk candles for lawns and pools.
Wedding Planner: Hiring a local planner will greatly simplify the process.
Attire and Beauty: Wedding dresses, suits, hair and makeup services.
Miscellaneous: Invitations, transportation, permits, and other incidentals.
Venue Costs in Bali
Choosing the right venue sets the tone for your wedding. Bali offers a range of options, with noted costs correct at time of writing:
Beachfront Resorts: Expect to pay between AUD 3,000 to AUD 10,000 for a venue hire and decorations package, depending on exclusivity and guest capacity.
Private Villas: Renting a villa can cost from AUD 2,000 to AUD 8,000 per day, often including accommodation for the couple and some guests. Accommodation costs would usually be shared between those staying at the villa. Villas also usually charge a function fee per event, and a banjar fee payable to the local community. Typically the function fee amount to one additional nights accommodation, although some villa charge more. Banjar fees range from AUD 200 to AUD 500.
Waterfall Ceremonies: These venues may require donations or fees ranging from AUD 500 to AUD 2,000, plus costs for decorations and permits.
Booking early and negotiating packages can help reduce costs. Many venues offer all-inclusive wedding packages that bundle venue, catering, and decorations.

Bali Wedding Costs: Catering and Entertainment
Food and entertainment are key to a memorable wedding experience. Bali’s culinary scene offers diverse options, from traditional Balinese cuisine to international dishes.
The following costs are based on a villa wedding and are correct at time of writing.
Catering
Dinner Per Person Cost: Expect to pay between AUD 30 to AUD 90 per guest for a full buffet or set dinner menu for a villa wedding. Menu prices at resort hotels can vary widely, with some exclusive resorts charging up to AUD 150 per guest.
Drinks Per Person Cost: You'd currently be paying AUD 40.00 per guest for a 7-hour non-alcohol drinks package + local beer for a villa wedding, increasing to AUD 85.00 per guest for a 7-hour premium drinks package including house wines, cocktails, spirits, local beer and soft drinks. Many private caterers will allow outside drinks into the venue with charging corkage fees. Drinks packages at resort hotels can be far more expensive and no drinks can be brought into the venue unless purchased through a licensed outlet in Bali. Corkage fees will also usually apply.
Menu Options: Buffets are generally more affordable than plated set dinners, although minimum guest numbers will usually apply to buffet menus. Stall menus can also be provided for villa weddings. Including local dishes can often reduce costs.
Entertainment
Live Bands or DJs: Prices range from AUD 500 to AUD 2,000 depending on the duration and popularity.
Traditional Performers: Balinese dance and music performances typically cost between AUD 300 to AUD 1,000.
Sound Equipment Rental: If not included, budget around AUD 200 to AUD 500.
Booking entertainment through your wedding planner will usually offer better rates.

What is the 30 : 30 : 30 Rule for Weddings?
The 30 : 30 : 30 rule (specifically for villa weddings) is a basic budgeting guideline that helps couples allocate their wedding expenses efficiently. It suggests:
Allocate 30% of your budget on the venue hire and accommodation for the bride and groom.
Allocate 30% of your budget on catering.
Allocate 30% of your budget to entertainment and extras like decorations, personal flowers, hair & make-up, photography and videography. This excludes the ceremony itself and venue power / lighting.
This rule helps maintain balance and ensures no single category overwhelms your budget. For example, if your total budget is AUD 20,000:
AUD 6,000 should go to venue hire.
AUD 6,000 should go to catering.
AUD 6,000 should be reserved for entertainment and extras.
Using this rule as a starting point can simplify your planning and keep your spending in check.
Additional Costs to Consider
Beyond the major categories, several other expenses can add up:
Wedding Planner Fees: Hiring a professional can cost from AUD 1,000 upwards, depending on guest numbers and the level of service. In our case we always build our planning fees into a wedding package.
Attire: Wedding dresses and suits can vary widely, but budgeting AUD 1,000 to AUD 3,000 is common.
Transportation: Renting cars or boats for the couple and guests can cost AUD 200 to AUD 1,000.
Permits and Legal Fees: If you plan a legal wedding in Bali, budget for paperwork and officiant fees, around AUD 500 to AUD 1,500.
Planning for these extras early helps avoid surprises and ensures a smooth wedding day.
